This set includes three digital penguin activities that are pre-loaded into three different learning platforms. Each activity includes a short nonfiction ebook (read-aloud) followed by interactive comprehension activities. These penguin readers and activities are an engaging addition to a polar animals unit and can be used in the classroom or at home. The three penguin topics are: “How Penguins Grow,” “What Penguins Do,” and “Penguin Adaptations.”
After you purchase this resource, you will download a PDF that includes links to access each of these digital penguin activities in Boom Learning, Google Slides, and Seesaw*. This way, if you change platforms in the future, you’ll be all set!
What’s Included in this Digital Penguin Activities Set:
How Penguins Grow: This activity includes a short nonfiction e-book about the life cycle of penguins. The book is in video form in Seesaw and Google Slides and is in slide form in Boom Learning. After students listen to the book, they will complete three interactive activities: a simple sequencing drag-and-drop slide, a life cycle puzzle, and a drag and drop activity that focuses on penguin nests.
What Penguins Do: This activity includes a short informational e-book about the behaviors of penguins, followed by three drag-and-drop activities. The interactive activities include a penguin habits puzzle, a “Penguins can…” sorting chart, and a simple sentence puzzle activity.
Penguin Adaptations: This activity includes an informational e-book about penguin adaptations. Following the book are three interactive slides with comprehension activities. In the first activity, students complete a puzzle highlighting the penguin adaptations mentioned in the book/video. The second activity is a sorting chart activity and the final activity allows students to add pictures to a penguin habitat scene.
All three digital penguin activities include audio directions.
The Seesaw versions of each of the activities also contain an open-ended drawing slide at the end where students draw based on a simple prompt and use the recording feature to tell about their picture.
*This resource is pre-loaded into Seesaw for teacher convenience. My Happy Place is not affiliated with Seesaw.
What Teachers Are Saying About These Digital Penguin Activities:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “My students love the videos/books. The activities are easy to understand. I like that they are broken up into different sections. It makes it easier on the students to take in the information.” -Stephanie L.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Prior to purchasing this Digital Penguin Activities resource, I had purchased the Apples, Pumpkins, and Gingerbread activities by My Happy Place so I knew I was going to be happy without a doubt! I especially love that these activities are nonfiction and realistic fiction, which made them even more engaging for my kindergarteners since most of their Seesaw assignments were fiction-based. The audio directions and format of the activities allowed my students to complete them independently and successfully. :)” -Carly S.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This was a perfect resource to use with my virtual students as well as my in-person students. They loved learning about the penguins and completing the activities. I chose to break it down into multiple days with various crafts and writing activities to accompany the resource. The students were completely engaged all week. ” -Tiffany T.
