How can I use these kindergarten math materials in my classroom?

The materials in this set can be used alone or as supplements to another kindergarten math curriculum.

When introducing a new kindergarten math unit, display the posters, vocabulary words, and other visual aids in an accessible place so you and your students can refer to them frequently. Model using these aids as you talk about math with your students and add class-made anchor charts as you complete them.

The kindergarten math worksheets included in each unit can be completed in whole or small-group settings. It is often helpful to introduce a new format with a small group (or using a projector) before allowing students opportunities to work independently.

Each unit includes a set of Turn & Talk cards and a set of Move & Learn cards. Prepare these by printing them on cardstock, cutting them apart, and securing them with a binder ring. Keep these cards where you conduct your math mini-lessons. The activities on these cards are great to use as warm-ups to math lessons and are also useful fillers when you have a few minutes before a transition. If you save the activity cards from unit to unit, they also make a fantastic way to quickly review previously taught content throughout the year!

The centers in this bundle are designed to be used with common math manipulatives that you probably already have in your classroom. These activities encourage students to think about materials in new ways, stretching their mathematical thinking.

These math centers can be completed multiple times by students, with or without the included recording sheets. The richness and depth of the activities ensure that students will not become bored and will continue to grow as they work.

Many of the included kindergarten math centers have directions for individual and partner play. This flexibility allows for quiet work when necessary and language and vocabulary development at other times. The partner games also give students valuable practice at turn-taking, sportsmanship, and other social skills.
